Ingredients
  

American Kadhi

  • 1 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1/2 cup besan (gram flour)
  • 1 1/2 tbsp dry mango powder(amchur)
  • 6 cups water
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 1/3 tsp fennel seeds (saunf)
  • 1/3 tsp crushed coriander seeds
  • 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds (methi dana)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/3 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/3 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
  • 1 pinch asafoetida powder

For Pakodas (Fritters)

  • 3/4 cup besan (gram flour)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/3 tsp carom seeds (ajwain)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions
 

  • Mix the dry ingredients for pakodas
  • Add enough water to make a thick paste and whisk well.
  • Deep fry the pakodas and keep aside
  • For Kadhi mix amchur, besan and water.
  • In a pan placed on stove on high heat pour the cooking oil.
  • When the oil becomes hot add fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, crushed coriander seeds followed by salt, turmeric, red chili powder and asafoetida powder.
  • Pour in the besan-amchur mixture.
  • Keep stirring.
  • Let it boil for 8 minutes.
  • Add pakodas and let it come to a boil.
  • Serve hot with steamed rice.
