Ingredients
American Kadhi
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1/2 cup besan (gram flour)
  • 1 1/2 tbsp dry mango powder(amchur)
  • 6 cups water
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 1/3 tsp fennel seeds (saunf)
  • 1/3 tsp crushed coriander seeds
  • 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds (methi dana)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/3 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/3 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
  • 1 pinch asafoetida powder
For Pakodas (Fritters)
  • 3/4 cup besan (gram flour)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/3 tsp carom seeds (ajwain)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions
  1. Mix the dry ingredients for pakodas
  2. Add enough water to make a thick paste and whisk well.
  3. Deep fry the pakodas and keep aside
  4. For Kadhi mix amchur, besan and water.
  5. In a pan placed on stove on high heat pour the cooking oil.
  6. When the oil becomes hot add fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, crushed coriander seeds followed by salt, turmeric, red chili powder and asafoetida powder.
  7. Pour in the besan-amchur mixture.
  8. Keep stirring.
  9. Let it boil for 8 minutes.
  10. Add pakodas and let it come to a boil.
  11. Serve hot with steamed rice.
